Founded in 2011, Octa (formerly OctaFX) is a multi-asset broker that currently reaches over 61 million clients across more than 90 countries. To accommodate its diverse customer base, the broker operates under different regulatory frameworks. European traders are onboarded through an entity licensed by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).

Clients from other regions can register with the offshore division, registered in Saint Lucia. The broker provides access to more than 260 financial markets tradable through contracts for difference (CFDs). Market coverage encompasses 6 asset classes, including 35 forex pairs, stocks, commodities, cryptocurrencies, indices, and a limited selection of exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Key Pros and Cons

Octa has several advantages to offer, including a straightforward pricing structure with floating spreads, a low barrier to entry, and no inactivity, deposit, or withdrawal fees. That said, there are certain downsides worth considering before opening a live account with Octa. The broker does not hold any tier-1 licenses from major regulators like the FCA in the UK or ASIC in Australia. It has a relatively modest catalog of tradable instruments, with only 77 available markets for MT4 users.

Key Pros

  • Commission-free trading across most available asset classes
  • Very low barrier to entry of $25 only
  • Negative balance protection for both EU and offshore customers
  • No fees after extended periods of trading inactivity
  • No additional deposit and withdrawal fees across all supported methods
  • Swap-free trading available to Muslim customers
  • Investor compensation under the ICF at the CySEC entity

Key Cons

  • Lacks licenses from serious tier-1 regulators like the FCA
  • A modest selection of around 260 tradable markets
  • A higher minimum deposit for EU customers (€50)
  • An extremely limited range of markets on MT4 (only 77 markets)
  • Only card and bank transfer deposits at the CySEC entity
  • No support for advanced platforms like cTrader or TradingView

Company Information

The broker was established in 2011 as OctaFX and originally built its presence around providing accessible, commission-free retail forex trading. The brand expanded its regulated presence in 2018 by securing a European license via Octa Markets Cyprus Ltd, regulated by CySEC. Octa introduced a proprietary trading platform (OctaTrader) in 2023 to provide a more user-friendly trading environment alongside established platforms like MetaTrader. The same year in September, OctaFX officially rebranded to Octa. The broker further expanded its regional footprint through local corporate entities, including Octa Investama Berjangka in Indonesia.

Octa’s corporate structure underwent a significant reorganization in early 2026. The offshore arms in Mauritius and the Comoros officially exited the shared brand network in February to relaunch as the independent entity Elev8. After the split, the global rights to the Octa brand were acquired by Versustrategy Inc., a company registered in Saint Lucia, which now oversees the broker’s primary international operations independently.

  • Octa Markets Cyprus Ltd serves customers from 30 or so EU and EEA countries with a license from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) and operates from registered offices located at 1, Agias Zonis and Thessalonikis Corner, Nicolaou Pentadromos Center, Block B’, Office 201, 3026, Limassol.
  • Versustrategy Inc. operates the offshore arm of Octa and is registered in Saint Lucia under number 2025-00917. Its business address is located in the Rodney Court Building, Rodney Bay, Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.

The broker claims to have accumulated over 100 industry awards throughout its history. The most recent accolades include the title for Best Proprietary Trading Platform in 2025 from World Business Stars Magazine and Best CFD Broker, Asia 2025 at the Global Brand Awards.

Why Trade with Octa?

The best aspects of trading with Octa are related to accessibility, making it an appealing option mainly for beginners and casual retail traders. By dropping commissions in favor of spread-only pricing, the broker keeps cost calculations simple even for less experienced customers.

The low minimum balance requirements, the free trading calculators, and copy trading functionalities of the proprietary web platform help lower the initial learning curve for onboarding customers. These strengths are complemented by an unlimited demo account, the availability of swap-free trading, and round-the-clock customer support.

Regulation

When Octa launched as OctaFX in 2011, it operated primarily as an offshore firm without authorization from tier-1 or tier-2 financial regulators. This changed in 2018 after the broker obtained a Cypriot license issued to Octa Markets Cyprus Ltd. CySEC authorization enables Octa to provide compliant trading services to EU and EEA countries, with negative balance protection and investor compensation in place.

Outside Europe, Octa originally operated as an umbrella brand covering several offshore divisions but this changed in early 2026. The entities regulated by the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius (FSC) and the Mwali International Services Authority of Comoros (MISA) abandoned the brand-sharing model and rebranded as Elev8. Their international clients were automatically migrated to the new brokerage, which offered similar trading conditions.

The Saint Lucia-registered company Versustrategy Inc. took full control over the global Octa brand after the split. Under current Saint Lucia legislation, over-the-counter CFD brokers can operate without a dedicated forex license as long as they satisfy local business requirements and cross-border standards.

Octa’s regional operations also have their distinct nuances. For example, Octa does not hold a direct broker license from the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) in South Africa. It rather uses a local proxy called Orinoco Capital (Pty) Ltd, which holds an FSP Category 1 license (FSP 51913) limited to administrative intermediary services. South African traders contract directly with the Saint Lucia-based entity, which acts as a product issuer and market maker.

Last but not least, it is worth mentioning that regulatory constraints prevent Octa from onboarding customers from residents from several restricted jurisdictions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Belgium, Japan, New Zealand, Israel, Iran, Myanmar, and the Philippines.

Regulation

KYC Procedure for Account Creation and Depositing

The registration process at Octa is simple and typically takes under 5 minutes to complete. The broker follows standard anti-money laundering regulations and requires a full Know Your Customer (KYC) verification before new traders can gain unrestricted access to their live accounts. Onboarding customers are recommended to undergo full verification before making any deposits, especially if they intend to fund their balance with credit or debit cards. We should also note that unverified traders cannot request any withdrawals.

The verification process is often completed within several minutes but the timeframe may extend to 24 hours. This usually happens when customers submit their documents on weekends, when their photos are illegible, or when the KYC department is dealing with a large number of verification requests. Octa accepts documents in several formats like .jpeg, .png, and .pdf, but the files should be no bigger than 10 MB.

Onboarding traders should submit only original, unedited, full-size color scans or photos with all 4 corners clearly visible. Selfies, screenshots, or digitally altered images are rejected. When uploading a national ID card, you must provide pictures of both the front and back side. For passports, customers must upload a double-page spread.

  1. Launch the Registration Form: Click on the blue Sign Up button to open the registration form and enter your email, name, and a password containing 6 to 32 characters, including letters, numbers, and special symbols. Alternatively, you can sign up with your Facebook or Google account.
  2. Verify Your Email: Check your inbox and click the verification link Octa sent to your email address to proceed to the next step.
  3. Provide Personal Data: Enter your birth date, city of birth, and a valid mobile number registered in your name. You must also specify your country or residence and enter your current residential address.
  4. Provide Tax Information: The broker will ask about your tax identification number or national insurance number. You must also select your country of tax residence from the drop-down menu.
  5. Provide Employment Information: Specify whether you are employed, self-employed, retired, unemployed, or studying. If employed, select your employment sector and enter your position.
  6. Outline Your Economic Profile: You must specify what payment methods you intend to use for deposits and withdrawals at Octa.
  7. Provide Source-of-Funds Information: Various options are available and you can tick several boxes, including investments, employment, inheritance, savings, and rent. Then enter the amount you plan on depositing with Octa in the next 12 months. Specify your average annual income and what percentage you are able to save annually. Finally, enter your approximate net worth.
  8. Take the Appropriateness Test: The broker will ask about your level of financial education and your experience with derivative trading. Some questions are related to your level of risk tolerance. Others concern using stop-loss orders, margin calls, and leverage.
  9. Upload Proof of Identity: Customers can upload photos of their national identification card, passport, or driver’s license but the accepted documents vary by country.
  10. Upload Proof of Address: This step involves uploading photos of recent bank statements or utility bills to confirm your current place of residence. Sending blurry photos will result in verification delays and rejections. Octa will send you an email when your verification is complete.

  • Several minutes to 24 hours to pass full account verification
  • No withdrawals before completing KYC checks
  • Accepts files no bigger than 10 MB

Account Types

The available account types at Octa depend on which of the two entities traders register with. Clients signing up through the CySEC-regulated branch can open a single retail account connected to the proprietary OctaTrader, as confirmed by customer support. Traders at the offshore division face a more varied choice from retail accounts for OctaTrader, MT4, and MT5.

All available retail accounts enable commission-free trading and share the same initial balance requirement. The chief difference lies in the range of tradable markets, with MT5 accounts offering the broadest selection of instruments. Islamic traders have access to swap-free trading, while new users can test the broker with unlimited demo accounts.

  • OctaTrader Account: The main retail account option with spread-only pricing, low minimum deposit requirements, and no fees on deposits and withdrawals.
  • MetaTrader 4 (MT4) Account: Available to customers of the offshore entity, this account offers similar trading conditions but the market range is restricted to 77 instruments.
  • MetaTrader 5 (MT5) Account: Account holders benefit from the greatest diversity of markets as the selection encompasses 263 tradable instruments.

OctaTrader Account

The OctaTrader account is the standard option for retail customers onboarding with the broker. It comes with a low minimum deposit requirement of $25 only, but Octa suggests depositing at least $100 so you have enough balance to cover your margin requirements. No additional commissions are charged, as all costs are built directly into the floating spreads. Minimum spreads start from 0.4 pips on major forex pairs at the CySEC entity and from 0.6 pips at the offshore division. Order size ranges from 0.01 to 50 lots.

This account gives you access to 104 markets, including 35 currency pairs, several hard commodities, 13 major indices, and 31 cryptocurrencies. Stock CFD trading is unavailable with this account. Leverage caps depend on the entity you join, maxing out at 1:30 under CySEC regulations and 1:1000 for offshore accounts. There are no inactivity fees for EU and EEA customers. However, offshore accounts are penalized with a $5 monthly fee after 1 full year of inactivity.

MetaTrader 5 Account

The MT5 account offers the same spread-only pricing and overall conditions as OctaTrader accounts, requiring a $25 minimum deposit. However, this setup is tailor-made for traders looking to speculate on stocks, as it provides access to CFDs on 148 individual shares and 7 exchange-traded funds. Beyond equity markets, users can trade 35 currency pairs, 32 cryptocurrencies, 3 energy products, silver, and gold.

The account uses a market execution model with 5-digit pricing. It supports both hedging and netting modes, as well as algorithmic trading with Expert Advisors. Customers can open positions as small as 0.01 micro lots, with a maximum trade size of 500 lots per order. Maximum leverage is restricted to 1:30 for CySEC accounts and 1:1000 for offshore accounts. Note that while you cannot convert an existing live account to a different platform once created, Octa allows you to open additional accounts across other platforms at no extra cost.

MetaTrader (MT4) Account

The MT4 account has the exact same minimum deposit requirement ($25) and commission-free structure as OctaTrader accounts, using 5-digit pricing with floating spreads. However, the market coverage is a bit more restricted for certain asset classes. The account enables speculating on the moving prices of 34 forex pairs, 32 cryptocurrencies, 5 commodities, and 6 indices. All in all, there are 77 tradable markets. This makes it suitable mainly for beginners lacking experience and customers focused on primary markets.

Where position sizing is concerned, customers can place orders from 0.01 to 200 lots per trade. The account provides great flexibility in terms of strategies and allows hedging, scalping, and automated trading with Expert Advisors. Depending on the entity, leverage ratios range from 1:2 up to 1:30 for European clients under CySEC rules. Trading at the offshore division can work with ratios ranging between 1:200 and 1:1000.

Islamic Account

Octa runs a swap-free model across all account types available at its offshore entity. Muslim traders do not need to submit special applications or fill out extra forms for Shariah-compliant conditions. Opening a regular live account automatically provides access to swap-free trading.

With overnight financing fees and interest removed, trading costs are limited to the bid-ask spread only. Octa does not replace overnight swaps with hidden administrative charges or daily maintenance fees. That said, this default swap-free setup applies only to the offshore arm. Traders who register through the CySEC entity do not have access to swap-free accounts.

Demo Account

Octa allows traders to open multiple demo accounts simultaneously to test new strategies without risking real capital. Each practice account comes funded with a default balance of $5,000 in virtual funds, although users can adjust the amount and add up to $1 million to their demos. A noticeable drawback is the quick expiry of demos connected to MetaTrader. Inactive MT4 accounts expire after 8 days, while those connected to MT5 last for 30 days. In contrast, demo accounts created on the proprietary OctaTrader offer unlimited access without expiration.

Account Types

4/5
  • Straightforward pricing with all costs covered by the spreads
  • OctaTrader, MT4, and MT5 retail accounts at the offshore entity
  • Only OctaTrader accounts available to EU and EEA customers
  • Unlimited demo accounts for OctaTrader users

Trading Fees and Other Costs

The broker operates on a commission-free model across all available account types regardless of whether you register under the European or offshore entity. Instead of charging separate commissions, Octa incorporates most trading costs directly into its floating spreads, adding a small markup.

Overnight financing charges are waived under the offshore entity and the costs are again absorbed by the spreads. Non-trading costs are almost non-existent here as the broker does not charge deposit, withdrawal, or currency conversion fees. There are no inactivity fees at the CySEC entity but offshore traders are penalized for extended dormancy.

  • Trading fees at Octa are covered by markups added to the floating spreads.
  • Non-trading fees result from inactivity, but only at the offshore entity.

Spreads

Execution costs at Octa are built entirely into its floating bid-ask spreads across all account types and platforms, with no separate commissions charged. The minimums and averages vary depending on the entity customers sign up with. European traders registered at the CySEC division benefit from a slightly tighter pricing, with minimum spreads starting at 0.4 pips on select major pairs and averaging roughly 0.9 pips for EUR/USD.

The minimum spreads at the offshore entity start from around 0.6 pips, with EUR/USD averages of 1.0 pip. Major pairs like AUD/USD and GBP/USD deliver reasonably narrow spreads that typically average 1.00 and 1.10 pips. Others, like USD/JPY and USD/CAD, show considerably higher averages, reaching 2.0 pips.

AUD/USD0.90 pips1.00 pip

Opening a EUR/USD position of 1 standard lot, consisting of 100,000 units in the base currency, costs $10 per side on average. Assuming the trader exits the market with the same spread, their average expenses will amount to $20 for EUR/USD.

EUR/USD Average Costs

  • Average Spread: 1.00 pip
  • Spread Cost per Standard Lot: 1.00 x $10 = $10 per side
  • Total Cost: $10 x 2 = $20 in both directions

Comparing Octa’s pricing with that of other major market makers provides useful insights on the broker’s overall competitiveness. Octa holds its ground on most major pairs when compared against Markets.com, easyMarkets, and AvaTrade, all of which also operate in-house dealing desks (DD). Octa’s averages on EUR/USD and USD/CHF are generally lower than those most other market makers deliver. In fact, the broker offers the lowest averages for USD/CHF out of the four.

That said, Octa is less competitive when it comes to certain forex markets. Pairs like USD/JPY and USD/CAD yield averages of 2.0 pips, trailing behind Markets.com and AvaTrade where spreads are significantly tighter.

Commissions

Trading under Octa’s commission-free model simplifies expense calculations, as all execution costs are already included in the quote prices. Only positions in unleveraged stocks incur commissions of $15 or 0.1%, whichever is higher. This makes position and money management quite straightforward, especially for beginner traders. On the downside, the markups added to the spreads make it more expensive to trade larger volumes overall compared to ECN brokers with raw pricing and fixed commissions per lot.

Spreads & Commissions

3.5/5
  • Spread-only pricing with zero commissions on most markets
  • Spreads from 0.6 pips and averages of 1.0 pip for EUR/USD
  • Adds a markup to its floating spreads
  • Largely competitive pricing when compared against other DD brokers

Financing Charges

Financing costs at Octa work differently across the two entities. Swap-free accounts are unavailable at the CySEC-regulated division, where customers incur financing charges when holding positions past the daily rollover at 12:00 AM Eastern European Time. The broker applies the charges directly to customers’ balance is euros. The exact rollover fees depend on several factors, including the direction of the position, its size, and the prevailing interbank rate differential for the respective market.

The international entity enables swap-free trading by default on OctaTrader, MT5, and MT4. You can keep leveraged positions open overnight for as long as you like without paying standard swap rates, interest charges, or administrative fees. There is no need to request an Islamic account to remain compliant with Sharia principles. According to the broker, all trading costs on overnight positions are covered by the spreads.

Deposit and Withdrawal Fees

Octa does not charge internal fees for deposits or withdrawals across both entities. With that said, any potential third-party charges are outside the broker’s control. Intermediary banks, card issuers, and payment gateways may levy additional transaction charges independently. Clients should consult the fee schedule of their payment provider beforehand to confirm whether there are any fees.

Inactivity Fees

Whether or not customers are penalized for inactivity again depends on which Octa entity they join. The CySEC entity does not impose any fees for extended periods of inactivity. However, accounts with no trading activity, deposits, and withdrawals for 90 consecutive days are flagged as inactive. If this extends to a full year, the broker may archive the account and mark it as dormant after prior notification.

Things are different at the offshore entity where a monthly inactivity fee of $5 is charged on accounts that have remained inactive for 12 or more months. Traders can easily avoid these account maintenance charges by occasionally logging in, opening new positions, or closing existing ones.

Inactivity Fees

3.5/5
  • No inactivity fees for EU and EEA customers
  • Archives inactive EU/EEA accounts after 12 months
  • A $5 fee after 12 months for offshore traders

Overall on Fees

Octa’s pricing structure is best evaluated within the context of market markers rather than brokers providing raw spreads with fixed commissions. Average EUR/USD and USD/CHF spreads are competitive when compared to other companies with proprietary dealing desks. Calculating one’s overall trading expenses is rather simple in the absence of commissions, especially for less experienced retail traders. There are no deposit or withdrawal fees and accounts at the offshore entity enable swap-free trading, which may also save you money.

However, this cost structure becomes less appealing if you are a large-scale trader or scalper. The average spreads of certain major pairs are comparatively wide, even when contrasted against those of other popular market makers. As a result, Octa is unlikely to work well for active forex traders and professionals who trade substantial volumes.

Trading Fees and Other Costs

3.5/5
  • Straightforward pricing with no commissions on most markets
  • Higher average spreads for some major currency pairs
  • Inactivity fees for customers from certain regions
  • No withdrawal or deposit fees across all supported methods

Desktop Trading Platforms

Octa customers can access the available markets through the proprietary OctaTrader or popular third-party terminals but their availability varies across regions. Customers registered under the CySEC entity can only use the proprietary software, while those outside the EU and EEA can choose from additional options like MetaTrader 4 (MT4) and MetaTrader 5 (MT5).

All three platforms run smoothly on desktop and mobile devices. Octa also has developed a dedicated social trading platform, Octa Copy, which allows clients to replicate the positions of experienced traders with proven track records. Customers new to copy trading benefit from a free trial of the service.

OctaTrader

OctaTrader provides a clean, modern workspace and runs directly in web browsers without requiring additional downloads or installation. This makes it a good fit for beginners looking for a straightforward environment to manage their portfolios in. Among the standout features of the platform is +Space, an integrated feed that provides expert analysis, daily trading ideas, and educational content directly in the web trading interface. Octa is currently developing additional features like market advisors and bots for automated trading.

  1. Price Alerts: Traders can set up automated notifications to monitor the status of their orders and receive immediate updates when an asset’s price reaches the level they have specified.
  2. Customizable Interface: The platform allows full workspace personalization, allowing traders to save custom templates, set alerts, and draw technical indicators directly on interactive charts.

Octa customers can download the platform on their Windows and Mac computers or trade directly through the browser-based version of MT5. It offers more features and functionalities compared to its predecessor MT4. The platform calculates position sizes in standard lots and supports one‑click trading, along with automated strategies through algorithmic scripts.

  1. Level II Pricing: The Depth of Market (DoM) window displays real-time market liquidity by showing active bid and ask quotes at various price levels.
  2. Partial Fills: Orders can execute partially if the total requested lot size is unavailable at a single price point, filling the remainder when liquidity allows it.
  3. Expanded Timeframes: The platform offers 21 chart timeframes, ranging from 1-minute intervals to 1 month.
  4. Technical Indicators: Traders can apply 38 built-in technical indicators and 44 graphical objects to identify market trends.
  5. Automated Trading: The MQL5 environment allows users to build, backtest, and run custom Expert Advisors (EAs) to automate their trades.

MetaTrader 4

MT4 is commonly preferred by beginner retail traders as it stands out with a more minimalistic design and lower technical complexity compared to the more advanced MT5. Octa customers can download the platform for free on computers running on Windows and macOS, or load the MT4 WebTrader in their browsers. The platform supports scalping, automated trading, and one‑click trading. The market range is limited to 77 instruments, including forex pairs, commodities, cryptocurrencies, and indices. Octa customers cannot trade stocks on MT4.

  1. Timeframes: The platform provides 9 chart timeframes ranging from 1 minute to 1 month.
  2. Orders and Execution: Market orders, instant execution, and pending limit or stop orders are available to MT4 users.
  3. Market Watch: The side panel on the left side of the chart layout contains 2 dedicated tabs to track live quotes and view current ticks for your chosen assets.
  4. Technical Indicators: MT4 comes with 30 built-in technical indicators, including trend-following and oscillator tools. Traders can also download and add custom indicators.
  5. Chart Types: Traders can see price action using standard Japanese candlesticks, bar and line charts, depending on their analytical preferences. The MQL5 environment allows users to build, backtest, and run custom Expert Advisors (EAs) to automate their trades.

Octa Copy

The broker provides proprietary copy trading via Octa Copy, enabling clients to automatically replicate the positions of others or share their own strategies as master traders. Designed with accessibility in mind, the service requires a minimum investment of just $25 to start copying but the amount may be higher with some master traders. Copiers can filter master traders based on various performance metrics, including overall profitability, risk scores, and number of followers. Copiers operate with a fixed leverage ratio of 1:500 by default, although adjustments can be made by contacting Octa’s support team.

  1. Free Trial: Copiers can test the service for free over a 7-day trial period as long as their chosen master traders have enabled this option.
  2. Commissions: Master traders set their own profit-sharing rates up to a maximum of 50% of investor gains, with accumulated weekly earnings paid into their master wallets on Sundays.
  3. Copier Service Fee: The standard charges for copiers are included directly into the spreads via a 0.2-pip markup.
  4. Master Trader Service Fee: The broker retains a 12% cut of the total commissions master traders earn from their followers.
  5. Copy Modes: Copiers can customize position sizing by choosing to mirror orders in equal proportions of 1:1, scaled multiples of 1:2 and 1:3, or custom ratios.

Octa offers a relatively modest selection of around 260 markets that primarily focuses on retail trading staples. Its selection of 35 forex pairs and 13 stock indices covers major global markets reasonably well, while its crypto offering of 32 assets outperforms the selection of other rival market makers like easyMarkets and AvaTrade.

However, the overall catalog falls short for multi-asset traders. With only 148 stocks, 5 commodities, and 7 ETFs, Octa provides fewer opportunities for portfolio diversification than dealing-desk brokers like AvaTrade, which features over 600 stocks, 19 commodities, and a couple of dedicated bond markets.

Forex

Octa provides access to 35 currency pairs across all supported platforms, including OctaTrader, MT4, and MT5. The selection covers key majors like EUR/USD and USD/JPY, alongside common minors like EUR/GBP and exotics, such as USD/ZAR and USD/MXN. Trading is entirely commission-free, with floating spreads starting from 0.6 pips on major pairs. Position sizing begins at a standard minimum lot size of 0.01 across all supported platforms. European clients can use maximum leverage of 1:30 for forex, whereas offshore account holders can access ratios as high as 1:1000 on major pairs.

Indices

Octa allows clients to trade CFDs on indices that represent the largest economies in the US, EU, and Asia-Pacific. Standard MT4 accounts enable trading 6 popular indices. OctaTrader and MT5 users can access the full range of 13 benchmarks. The selection includes popular options like US500, NAS100, US30, UK100, JPN225, AUS200, and GER40. Trading is again commission-free, with typical spreads on key indices like the US500 averaging around 2.0 pips. Maximum leverage is capped at 1:20 for European retail accounts and 1:400 at the offshore division.

Stocks and ETFs

Stock trading at Octa is available only on MT5, with the offering encompassing 7 exchange-traded funds and over 148 individual stocks from 16 global exchanges across the US, Germany, Spain, and Italy. Customers can speculate on the rising and falling stock prices of major companies like Nvidia, Tesla, Amazon, AMD, and Netflix.

Unleveraged stock positions incur a $15 commission or 0.1% per trade, whichever is higher. There are no custody fees and customers have no voting rights, although account balances are adjusted for corporate dividends. Traders can maintain as many as 10 open positions in unleveraged stocks simultaneously. For those using leverage, the caps are 1:5 for European retail clients and 1:40 for offshore customers.

Commodities

Octa provides a fairly basic selection of commodities, offering just 5 instruments in total. The offering covers two precious metals, gold (XAU/USD) and silver (XAG/USD), alongside 3 energy markets, comprising Brent Crude Oil, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude, and US natural gas. The broker does not support soft commodities such as wheat, sugar, or coffee. Spreads on gold average around 40 pips. CySEC-regulated accounts can access leverage of 1:20 on gold and 1:10 on energy CFDs, whereas the offshore branch offers significantly higher caps reaching 1:1000 for gold and 1:400 for the remaining commodities.

Cryptocurrencies

Octa supports 32 digital assets, providing coverage across major cryptocurrencies and emerging altcoins. Traders can access popular coins like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Dogecoin, Ripple, and Litecoin, alongside lesser-known options like Aave, Axie Infinity, Loopring, Fantom, and the Graph. All crypto markets are traded through CFDs quoted against the US dollar. Cryptocurrencies are available for trading 24/7, with Bitcoin spreads starting from 0.9 pips and averaging around 2.1 pips. European retail accounts under CySEC regulations are restricted to maximum leverage of 1:2, whereas offshore clients can trade crypto with leverage of up to 1:200.

What You Cannot Trade

Octa covers the basics for retail CFD trading, but its catalog leaves out several major financial asset classes. The narrower product range can be a drawback for multi‑asset traders who depend on broader market access to diversify their portfolios and build long-term wealth. Without exposure to defensive assets, fixed‑income products, or exchange‑traded hedging tools, traders are effectively confined to a limited range of speculative spot and CFD markets.

  1. Bonds: The absence of government and corporate debt instruments prevents conservative investors from holding less volatile fixed-income assets or using sovereign treasuries as market hedges during equity downturns.
  2. Options: Lacking options contracts limits strategy flexibility and deprives advanced traders of essential tools for precise volatility positioning and defined-risk hedging.
  3. Futures: Without access to futures, some traders may miss out on transparent order books, deeper market liquidity, and standardized long‑term contracts that are often used for broad market hedging.
  4. Physical Stocks: Octa does not offer direct equity ownership, as all stocks are available for speculative trading only without custody or voting rights.
  5. Soft Commodities: Agricultural products like coffee, sugar, wheat, and corn are not supported, leaving energies and precious metals as the only options for commodity traders.
  6. Mutual Funds: The lack of managed mutual funds may make it more difficult for some traders to build balanced portfolios within a single trading account.

Trade Execution

Octa’s offshore entity acts as an execution‑only market maker and principal counterparty to customer trades. The broker provides direct market execution on all instruments and fills orders at prevailing prices, with a possibility for minor positive or negative slippage. It is also worth noting that the offshore entity limits high‑frequency automated strategies and may even restrict Expert Advisors or other trading robots that execute more than 30 orders per minute.

The CySEC‑regulated entity operates in an agency capacity, sometimes routing client orders externally to help secure optimal execution quality and pricing. The European branch works with major institutional liquidity providers like LMAX Global and Swissquote Bank. Other than that, Octa maintains an efficient infrastructure, reporting average execution speeds of around 100 milliseconds and filling 97.5% of all orders without slippage.

Account funding options at Octa vary depending on whether you register under the European or offshore entity. Standard debit and credit cards like Visa and Mastercard are supported globally, whereas cryptocurrency deposits with Litecoin, Dogecoin, and Tether are available only to offshore clients. Offshore traders also gain access to localized payment systems like Oxxo and SPEI in Mexico or Ozow and local bank transfers in South Africa.

Transactions are processed in USD or EUR as base currencies, depending on your registered entity, with non-supported currency deposits converted automatically upon receipt. Funding starts from an accessible baseline of $25, although card deposits at the CySEC branch have a €50 minimum. Octa charges zero deposit fees across all payment gateways. Card transactions are processed almost instantly, while bank wire transfers can take between 3 to 7 business days to reflect in your balance.

Minimum withdrawal limits vary by method and go as low as €0.01 for Visa and Mastercard transactions at the CySEC entity.

Octa does not charge internal withdrawal fees on any supported payment channel. Internal approval usually takes 1 to 3 hours. Once released, funds typically arrive within 5 minutes to an hour for most electronic methods and cryptocurrencies. Standard bank wire transfers are the main exception, taking 3 to 7 business days to clear. Requests are processed only during business hours on weekdays from 6 AM to 10 PM EET.

The live chat is accessible directly via the broker’s website and traders are initially serviced by an automated chatbot designed to address basic account queries. However, clients can request a transfer to a human support agent at any point, with queue times averaging around 30 seconds.

Email assistance is offered for less urgent and administrative queries. Security and Money Guarantees

The safety of funds at Octa is built around regulatory compliance and risk‑management protocols, but the availability of certain safeguards depends on which Octa entity holds your account. A key safeguard is the segregation of client funds. The capital of traders is held in separate bank accounts from the broker’s operational funds. This prevents Octa from using client money for covering its corporate expenses or maintaining operational liquidity.

Both European and offshore clients benefit from negative balance protection. If extreme volatility triggers a stop‑out that pushes an account into the red, Octa automatically resets the balance to zero, so traders cannot lose more than their initial deposits. Margin call and stop‑out levels differ by region. Offshore traders trigger a margin call at 25% and a stop‑out at 15%, while CySEC accounts have a higher 50% stop‑out level, alongside leverage caps of 1:30 in line with MiFID II.

In addition, retail traders under the CySEC entity are covered by the Investor Compensation Fund (ICF), which provides up to €20,000 per eligible client if the broker becomes insolvent. On the technical side, all account access and financial transactions are encrypted using 128‑bit SSL protocols to protect sensitive data from unauthorized third-party access.

Security of Funds

3/5
  • Negative balance protection for both offshore and EU customers
  • Investor compensation of €20,000 for retail EU traders
  • Stop-out levels of 50% or 15%, depending on the entity
  • Stores client funds in segregated accounts

Conclusion and Overall Rating

Octa positions itself as a streamlined, user‑centric broker aimed mainly at less experienced retail traders. Its main strengths are its low barrier to entry, commission‑free trading with floating spreads, and default swap‑free conditions for offshore accounts. The available platforms support flexible execution across all devices, backed by free deposits and fast withdrawal processing.

These advantages come with clear trade‑offs, however. Octa offers a relatively modest catalog of around 260 tradable instruments and leaves out many asset classes like bonds, futures, options, and physical shares. Its regulatory footprint also leans heavily on its offshore Saint Lucia entity for global clients. The broker lacks tier‑1 authorization from bodies like the FCA or ASIC. Overall, Octa is a low‑cost, convenient option for casual forex and CFD traders, but more experienced customers looking for broader market exposure may find the offering too limited.

  • A limited range of 260 or so tradable markets
  • Well-integrated research and educational resources for beginners

How We Calculate the Overall Score

Our reviewers rate all brokers based on the same 15 Scoring Categories. Each category is rated with a score between 1 and 5 (in 0.5 increments).

The Scoring Categories are not weighted equally. Each category's score is multiplied by the category's weight to calculate its weighted contribution towards the Overall Score. Higher weights go to factors that most directly shape the typical retail trader's day-to-day online experience - trading costs, platforms, payments, and execution. On the other hand areas such as research content or account-opening formalities contribute less. This keeps the overall score focused on what matters most when choosing a broker to trade with.
