Company Information

FXPrimus positions itself as a retail derivatives provider with several established third-party platforms and flexible account pricing. The company was founded in 2009 and is operated by Primus Markets INTL LTD and Primus Global LTD. The former handles the broker’s international operations and holds a VFSC license, while the latter is a Cyprus-incorporated company that serves European clients under the regulatory oversight of CySEC.

Primus Africa (Pty) Ltd, a South African financial services provider, was previously responsible for FXPrimus’ South African offering. It was licensed by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) under FSP license 46675, but this license was no longer valid as of August 2026.

Here is a summary of FXPrimus’ active and historical entities:

  • Primus Markets INTL LTD, an international trading entity incorporated in Vanuatu and regulated by the Vanuatu Financial Services Commission under dealer-in-securities license number 14595.
  • Primus Global LTD, a Cyprus-incorporated company registered with CySEC under registration number HE 337614 and regulated by the Cyprus financial watchdog under license number 261/14; its registered address is at Govant Building, BP 1276, Port Vila, Vanuatu.
  • Primus Solutions LTD, a Limassol-based entity registered in Cyprus under registration number HE 410155, which under certain circumstances acts as a payment agent on behalf of Primus Markets INTL LTD (Vanuatu); its registered address is at Kolonakiou 57, Linopetra, 4103, Limassol, Cyprus.
  • Primus Africa (Pty) Ltd, a South African financial services provider previously authorized by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority under FSP number 46675.

According to an announcement made in 2015, the company was the official sponsor of Manchester City FC for three and a half years. In 2024, it was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Vanuatu Basketball Federation (VBF) for its sponsorship of the VBF’s 2024 basketball programs. Additionally, the company earned the Outstanding Technical Contribution and Support award during the second Symposium on Virtual Assets: SHAPING TOMORROW: Exploring the Role of the Financial Dealers License & Virtual Assets in National Development, which was held by the VFSC in 2024.

In terms of regulatory scrutiny, FXPrimus was ordered by the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) in 2015 to stop targeting Australia-based traders due to its lack of an Australian Financial Services (AFS) license. As a result, Australian traders can no longer apply for or open an FXPrimus account.

Regulation

Primus Markets INTL LTD is the principal entity for international accounts. The Vanuatu Financial Services Commission regulates the trading firm as a dealer in securities under license number 14595. In line with VFSC margin trading policies, FXPrimus is flexible in terms of the leverage it offers: PrimusCLASSIC account holders can use leverage of up to 1:2000, while a cap of 1:500 is imposed on PrimusPRO and PrimusZERO traders.

In Europe, client onboarding is handled by Primus Global LTD, which holds a valid license issued by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission under license number 261/14. The rules outlined by the European Securities and Markets Authority dictate that regulated brokerages must enforce leverage limits of 1:30 for major forex pairs. Thus, clients of Primus Global LTD are restricted to 1:30 leverage when trading forex majors. Other CFD instruments are subject to even stricter limits, which we outline below. Cryptocurrencies are not listed because FXPrimus Europe does not offer crypto CFDs.

  • Major forex pairs: 1:30
  • Non-major pairs, gold (XAU/USD and XAU/EUR), and major equity indices: 1:20
  • Commodities other than gold and minor indices: 1:10
  • Individual equities: 1:5

In compliance with another European licensing requirement, FXPrimus provides retail traders with negative balance protection, a safeguard that prevents a trader’s balance from dropping below $0. Crucially, this protection is not exclusive to EU- and EEA-based users: non-professional traders registered with the offshore Vanuatu entity are also entitled to negative balance protection. We consider this a significant advantage, as most offshore brokers do not provide this safeguard.

Client fund segregation is also ensured, as mandated by both CySEC and the VFSC. In Europe, investors are also protected through the Investor Compensation Fund (ICF), which offers reimbursement of up to €20,000 if FXPrimus were ever to become insolvent. However, this safeguard is exclusive to European traders.

As noted previously, Primus Africa (Pty) Ltd was listed on the South African Financial Sector Conduct Authority’s register of licensees under FSP number 46675, but FXPrimus Group no longer operates in South Africa or accepts South African traders. Other excluded regions include Australia, the USA, Iran, Belgium, Myanmar, Russia, North Korea, and India.

KYC Procedure for Account Creation and Depositing

Onboarding is a relatively streamlined process for FXPrimus users, and it took our testers around ten minutes to complete registration and submit their verification documents. To initiate the registration process with the VFSC-regulated branch, visit the broker’s homepage, hover over the Register button, and select Client. Then, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Personal Information: Choose your country and provide your first and last name, phone number, and email address. Create a secure password, select Individual to ensure that you can open a suitable account, and confirm that you have read and accepted the Client Agreement.
  2. Email Verification: Verify your email by entering the code FXPrimus sent to your inbox in the designated field.
  3. Personal Details: Enter your date of birth and address, select your gender, and confirm that you are not a US citizen. Confirm that the information you have already provided is accurate and, if so, proceed to the next step.
  4. Live Account Setup: Choose either MT5 or MT4 and select your preferred account type. You can choose from PrimusPRO, PrimusCLASSIC, and PrimusZERO. Set the maximum leverage limit and select your account’s base currency. The available options are EUR, GBP, PLN, SGD, USD, and ZAR.
  5. Questionnaire: Describe your trading goals and answer questions related to your employment status, field of employment, source of funds, and whether derivative products are suitable for your goals and risk tolerance, given the risk of losing your entire invested capital.

After completing the steps above, you have finished the initial registration process. If you leave this page and open your dashboard, you will be able to create a demo account.

If you would like to start live trading immediately, you will need to make a deposit, which can also be done without completing the Know Your Customer (KYC) check. However, because document verification is necessary for withdrawals, you may choose to complete the KYC process first.

Verification requires two types of documents:

  • Proof of Identification: You must upload a color copy of your valid passport, national identification card, driver’s license, or another valid government-issued ID.
  • Proof of Residence: Accepted documents include a utility bill, bank statement, or bank or card statement in your name. It must have been issued within the past six months.

Account Opening

  • The application is completed online through the client portal
  • Demo access is available before live deposits or KYC
  • Account and platform choices are incorporated into the onboarding process
  • Live account trading is accessible before KYC

Account Types

FXPrimus’ account offering comprises one spread-only account and two accounts for traders interested in commission-based raw pricing. All of them support the full MetaTrader suite and the FXPrimus MetaTrader WebTrader platform, but they differ significantly in terms of costs, deposit requirements, and available instruments. We will first review PrimusCLASSIC and PrimusPRO:

  • PrimusCLASSIC: The entry-level account with no separate trading commission and a minimum deposit of $15.
  • PrimusPRO: A tighter-spread account that charges commissions and has a minimum funding requirement of $500.

PrimusCLASSIC

PrimusCLASSIC incorporates costs into the bid-ask spread rather than charging a separate lot-based trading commission. The account’s average spread stands at 1.5 pips, and since the spreads are floating, they can widen or become narrower according to liquidity, volatility, session timing, and the instrument itself. PrimusCLASSIC boasts the largest selection of tradable instruments, as users have access to markets like forex, metals, energies, stocks, indices, and cryptocurrencies. It is relatively accessible as well, since creating such an account demands a low minimum deposit of $15. Clients registered with the Vanuatu branch can increase their market exposure by using leverage of up to 1:2000, while EU-based traders are limited to leverage of 1:30. The supported base currencies are EUR, GBP, PLN, SGD, USD, and ZAR.

PrimusPRO

When trading with PrimusPRO, a portion of the trading cost is charged in the form of a commission, which can stand between $5 and $10 (round-turn) depending on the instrument: Forex, metals, and indices incur a $10 commission, while trading energies requires paying a commission of $5 per lot. Cryptos and stocks are absent from the product roster.

This extra fee results in significantly lower spreads than the ones PrimusCLASSIC users are levied, and the advertised average spread of the PrimusPRO account currently stands at 0.30 pips. Opening a PrimusPRO account will be more difficult for novice traders and clients on a budget, however, since the minimum deposit requirement is $500. Additionally, the leverage limit is significantly lower at 1:500.

PrimusZERO

In addition to the main accounts outlined above, the broker offers PrimusZERO. This account advertises typical spreads of 0.00 pips and usually applies a round-trip commission of $5. The EURO STOXX 50 is the sole exception, as trading this index requires a $10 commission. The supported instruments are forex, metals, and indices.

Spreads on some forex pairs average 0.00 pips, meaning the commission is the main trading cost. As a result, PrimusZERO accounts offer the most competitive pricing. To access these ultra-low spreads, traders must meet the minimum deposit requirement of $1,000.

This account type is only offered to clients of Primus Markets INTL LTD. Users who trade with Primus Global LTD, the CySEC-regulated branch, can only access accounts such as PrimusCLASSIC and PrimusPRO, which offer conditions similar to those of their offshore counterparts.

Swap-Free Account

Leveraged trading can involve the payment or receipt of interest when a trader keeps a position open overnight. These fees are also known as swaps or rollover costs, and they represent the interest rate difference between the two currencies in a forex pair.

According to Islamic beliefs, interest is considered haram, making typical overnight trading inaccessible to Muslim traders. To address this issue, FXPrimus offers an Islamic account that eliminates rollover costs. Swap-free trading is available to both MT4 and MT5 users, and the account type supports 130 instruments across forex, indices, and metals.

To open a swap-free account, users must contact the customer support team. While many brokers require proof of faith and only offer Islamic accounts to users residing in certain regions, FXPrimus imposes no such restrictions. Additionally, FXPrimus does not replace swaps with administrative fees.

PrimusDEMO

The PrimusDEMO account enables FXPrimus clients to execute trades with virtual funds. It is suitable for beginner traders who need to practice in a risk-free environment, as well as experienced traders who are planning to use a particular strategy and want to observe how it performs before using it for real-money trading. PrimusDEMO accounts are available to MT4 and MT5 users, as well as clients who use FXPrimus WebTrader.

Demo accounts are not permanent and expire 90 days after activation. You can initially open up to five demo accounts, but it is possible to increase this limit by contacting customer support.

PrimusSYNTHETICS

This account type is dedicated to synthetic indices, which are simulated trading instruments that provide access to artificial markets around the clock, seven days a week. FXPrimus’ account offers more than 16 synthetic indices, including Smash 500, Boost 800, and Dynamic 100. The account’s average spread is 0.10 pips, and there are no commissions. Additionally, clients can use leverage of up to 1:10000.

This account has a low minimum deposit requirement of $15. Margin calls are issued when the account’s margin level reaches 100%, while a stop-out is triggered when this level drops to 50%.

PrimusPAMM

A Percentage Allocation Management Module (PAMM) account allows individual investors to delegate their capital to an experienced asset manager. The manager handles all trading orders for the pooled account, and profits and losses are automatically allocated to participants in proportion to their invested capital.

PrimusPAMM is FXPrimus’ managed account offering. It is available to MT4 users and requires $500 in master capital. More than 40 pairs are available for trading, and a commission of $10 per lot applies.

FXPrimus Copy Trading

Copy trading enables users to select experienced market participants and automatically copy their trades. It is an excellent option if you are seeking a more passive approach to trading but are not interested in PAMM accounts.

FXPrimus’ copy trading offering is highly customizable, allowing you to configure risk management tools such as stop-loss and take-profit orders. Moreover, you have full control over the amount allocated to copying a particular strategy, and you are free to stop copying it at any time.

To find a suitable strategy provider, FXPrimus allows you to view provider profiles that include key statistics such as return on investment (ROI) percentages and net profits. You can also view performance fees, which are the fees charged by strategy providers for their services. These charges are based solely on the profit generated. To start copying, you simply need to create a PrimusCopy account, choose a strategy provider, and allocate at least $50 toward copying.

Trading Fees and Other Costs

Using an online broker to trade forex, indices, and other instruments involves a range of fees. These are separated into two distinct categories:

  • Trading Fees: Spreads, commissions, and rollover fees
  • Non-Trading Costs: Deposit and withdrawal fees, inactivity fees, and currency conversion fees

Below, you will find a summary of the fees and charges that may be levied if you create an FXPrimus account:

Spreads

Spreads are one of the fundamental factors that determine the profitability of forex trades. At FXPrimus, the spread depends on the account type you use, and there are three options:

  • PrimusCLASSIC: This is the spread-only option, with spreads averaging 1.50 pips and no commissions.
  • PrimusPRO: A commission-based account with spreads averaging 0.30 pips and a commission of $8 to $10 per lot.
  • PrimusZERO: The zero-spread offering, with average spreads of 0.00 pips and a $5 commission per lot.

When examining a range of major and minor pairs, we observed the following average spreads listed on FXPrimus’ website:

InstrumentPrimusCLASSICPrimusPROPrimusZERO
EUR/USD0.90 pips0.40 pips0.00 pips
GBP/USD1.50 pips0.60 pips0.00 pips
USD/JPY2.20 pips1.20 pips0.00 pips
EUR/GBP1.60 pips0.40 pips0.00 pips
AUD/USD2.10 pips0.50 pips0.10 pips
EUR/JPY2.60 pips1.60 pips0.00 pips
GBP/JPY3.60 pips2.20 pips1.40 pips

To get a full picture of a pair’s trading costs, we must also account for commissions. We will now examine a one-lot (100,000 currency units) EUR/USD position. Here, one pip is equivalent to $10, and the opening and closing prices are identical.

PrimusCLASSIC

  • EUR/USD spread: 0.90 pips
  • Total cost: 0.90 x $10 = $9.00 per side and $18 per round trip

PrimusPRO

  • EUR/USD spread: 0.40 pips
  • Spread cost: 0.40 x $10 = $4.00 per side
  • Commission: $5.00 per side
  • Total cost: $4.00 + $5.00 = $9.00 per side and $18 per round trip

PrimusZERO

  • EUR/USD spread: 0.00 pips
  • Spread cost: $0.00 x $10 = $0.00
  • Commission: $2.50 per side
  • Total cost: $0.00 + $2.50 = $2.50 per side and $5 per round trip

As shown above, PrimusZERO offers the most competitive pricing for trading EUR/USD, as the total cost consists primarily of the commission.

In this example, PrimusCLASSIC and PrimusPRO have the same overall costs despite the added commission. However, for some pairs, PrimusPRO can cost less than the spread-only option. Using the formula outlined above, we can see that trading GBP/USD with PrimusPRO is more cost-effective than using the zero-commission account:

PrimusCLASSIC

  • GBP/USD spread: 1.50 pips
  • Total cost: 1.50 x $10 = $15 per side and $30 per round trip

PrimusPRO

  • GBP/USD spread: 0.60 pips
  • Spread cost: 0.60 x $10 = $6.00 per side
  • Commission: $5.00 per side
  • Total cost: $6.00 + $5.00 = $11.00 per side and $22 per round trip

Compared with the overall forex trading market, spreads on some pairs are either on par with or generally lower than those offered by brokers such as FP Markets and Eightcap. On the other hand, spreads on pairs such as USD/JPY tend to be higher. For a full comparison of spreads on several popular major and minor pairs, refer to the data below:

Commissions

Earlier, we noted that PrimusCLASSIC has no separate commissions. In contrast, PrimusPRO charges round-trip commissions of $5 or $10, depending on the instrument, while PrimusZERO charges clients $5 for trading most products. These commission amounts apply to standard-lot positions, and the fee is automatically adjusted if you trade mini or micro lots.

Here is a breakdown of the costs associated with instruments that have a commission of $10:

  • Trading one standard lot containing 100,000 base currency units involves an opening fee of $5 and a closing fee of $5.
  • A mini-lot position contains 10,000 base currency units. Thus, opening and closing the position costs $1 in total, or $0.50 per side.
  • Trading micro lots containing 1,000 base currency units results in a fee of $0.05 per side, or $0.10 per round trip.

Based on the figures outlined above, we can conclude that PrimusZERO results in even lower per-side commissions of $2.50 for a standard lot, $0.25 for a mini lot, and $0.025 for a micro lot.

PrimusPRO’s $10 commissions are significantly higher than the industry norm. Most brokers charge a commission of $3 per side and $6 per round trip, while even costlier brokers typically keep one-way commissions at a maximum of $3.50.

On the other hand, PrimusZERO’s commission-based offering is more cost-effective than those of most competitors, as the broker charges a commission of just $2.50 per side. This puts PrimusZERO nearly on par with the ZERO account offered by discount broker Fusion Markets, which has a low commission of $2.25 per side.

Spreads & Commissions

4/5
  • Reasonable EUR/USD spread of 0.90 pips with the PrimusCLASSIC account
  • PrimusZERO offers spreads from 0.00 pips
  • PrimusPRO has per-side commissions of $5, which is higher than the typical $3 to $3.50
  • PrimusZERO charges an ultra-low commission of $2.50 per side

Financing Charges

Positions held beyond the platform’s daily rollover are typically subject to swap debits or credits. These rates can vary by instrument, position direction, and prevailing interest conditions. As FXPrimus operates on the T+2 settlement cycle, rollover fees are tripled on Wednesdays to account for Saturday and Sunday.

Below, you can see the swap rates listed on August 16, 2026.

AUD/USD-3.839-2.497
EUR/JPY4.774-11.308
GBP/JPY12.8513-26.521

If your religious beliefs prohibit paying or receiving interest but you still wish to hold positions past the rollover, FXPrimus offers a swap-free account. This account type does not replace swaps with administrative charges.

Deposit Fees

FXPrimus does not impose deposit fees on client accounts. However, a trader’s bank, card issuer, or e-wallet operator may deduct its own fee when the trader tops up an online trading account. The amount credited can therefore differ from the amount sent, particularly when the payment currency does not match the trading account’s base currency. For more details, see Deposit Methods.

Withdrawal Fees

Like deposits, withdrawals are fee-free at FXPrimus, in the sense that the broker does not charge fees for withdrawal transactions. You may still be charged fees by your bank or another payment processor you use. For more details, see Withdrawal Methods

Inactivity Fees

At FXPrimus, accounts are deemed inactive if the owner has not conducted any trading activity for 90 days. Once an account reaches inactive status, the broker imposes a monthly fee of $50. The exact cost depends on the account currency:

CurrencyInactivity Fee
USD50
EUR43
GBP36
SGD65
ZAR887
PLN183
HUF16,875

FXPrimus closes accounts that remain inactive for a total of six months. If there is a remaining balance, it is transferred to a temporary control account, while accounts without funds are archived. You can request account reactivation by contacting the support team via email.

Inactivity Fees

1/5
  • Accounts become inactive after 90 days of dormancy
  • High monthly inactivity fee of $50
  • Six months of inactivity leads to account archival

Overall on Fees

While FXPrimus’ commission-free spreads are not the lowest in the industry, they are better than those of brokers charging spreads of more than 1.00 pip on EUR/USD CFD positions. As for commission-based accounts, the $10 round-trip cost is comparatively high, while the $5 round-trip commission is among the lowest our team has encountered when reviewing online trading brands. Swap fees are charged, but the broker offers an Islamic swap-free account for Muslim CFD traders.

A key factor we considered when assessing FXPrimus’ costs is its inactivity policy. Users whose accounts remain inactive for 90 days are charged a monthly fee of $50. If the inactive status is not lifted within the following three months, the account is closed. If an inactive account has remaining funds, they are temporarily moved to a control account.

Trading Fees and Other Costs

3/5
  • Spread-only and commission-based pricing
  • Average spreads of 1.50 pips for PrimusCLASSIC, 0.30 pips for PrimusPRO, and 0.00 pips for PrimusZERO
  • Per-side commissions of $5 or $2.50, depending on the asset and account type
  • Swap-free accounts
  • A monthly fee of $50 applies following 90 days of account inactivity

Desktop Trading Platforms

FXPrimus’ global entity has integrated MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 into its platform selection, and both offer downloadable software. Most account types support both platforms, but PAMM accounts are an exception, as they are exclusive to MT4. PrimusSYNTHETICS, meanwhile, is exclusive to MT5 users. Platform availability also varies by region, as European clients registered with FXPrimus EU cannot use MT5.

FXPrimus WebTrader, available in all regions, is the broker’s MetaTrader web interface. Clients can connect both MT4 and MT5 accounts to this platform and use more than 30 indicators, nine timeframes, and three chart types. However, this option is less feature-rich than the dedicated MetaQuotes platforms.

MetaTrader 4

MT4 was launched in 2005 and remains popular among forex enthusiasts and CFD traders. This platform is accessible to most FXPrimus clients, regardless of the account they use or the jurisdiction in which they reside. PrimusSYNTHETICS is the only exception because this account is exclusive to MT5.

Clients can install MT4 on Windows and macOS computers or mobile devices. Alternatively, they can forgo downloading additional software and use MetaQuotes’ web platform. Here is an overview of the key characteristics that make MT4 a competitive option for FXPrimus traders:

  1. Analytics: The platform offers interactive charts featuring nine timeframes, 23 analytical objects, and 30 built-in technical indicators.
  2. Automation: Expert Advisors and custom indicators can be developed or installed using the MQL4 environment.
  3. Orders: Market and pending orders, as well as stop-loss and take-profit instructions, are supported.
  4. One-Click Trading: This feature streamlines trading by allowing positions to be opened with a single click from a symbol’s chart or the Market Watch menu.
  5. Testing: MT4 includes single-threaded strategy-testing functionality for automated systems.

MetaTrader 5

MT5 is MT4’s successor and is the more modern MetaQuotes terminal. The platform provides a broader analytical and automation framework, with multi-threaded backtesting being a key advantage.

MT5 can be used by global traders with FXPrimus’ spread-based and commission-based accounts, as well as PrimusSYNTHETICS. However, it is not available to PAMM clients or traders based in the EU and EEA.

  1. Analysis: MT5 provides 21 timeframes, 38 built-in indicators, and an economic calendar.
  2. Automation: MQL5 supports Expert Advisors and custom indicators.
  3. Backtesting: Users can perform multi-threaded strategy testing.

  5. Market Depth: Depth-of-market functionality is available where supplied by the broker and supported by the instrument.
  6. One-Click Trading: This feature enables traders to open and close orders directly from the chart window or Market Watch with a single click.

  • MT4 and MT5 are supported
  • FXPrimus WebTrader is the broker’s web-based solution for MetaTrader users
  • Algorithmic traders can use MQL4 and MQL5
  • Platform availability is not universal across account types and regions

Mobile Trading Platforms

Mobile trading is provided through the official MT4 and MT5 applications for Android and iOS devices. These are third-party applications developed by MetaQuotes, and the broker does not offer a proprietary FXPrimus trading app.

The apps support charts, watchlists, market and pending orders, position management, and account history reviews. Push alerts and price notifications are available, subject to device settings.

In terms of limitations, traders should be aware that automated strategies and backtesting do not run locally on the mobile terminals. Advanced coding and multi-chart analysis remain better suited to desktop software.

Forex

Currency trading is central to FXPrimus’ offering, and there are currently more than 40 pairs available in the broker’s library of symbols. The range includes major pairs such as EUR/USD and AUD/USD, minor crosses such as EUR/GBP, and a selection of less liquid exotics such as USD/ZAR.

Leverage and margin vary by account type at the Vanuatu-regulated entity. PrimusCLASSIC traders can use leverage of up to 1:2000, while PrimusPRO and PrimusZERO users are limited to leverage of 1:500. At FXPrimus EU, retail traders have much lower leverage of 1:30 when trading major pairs, whereas leverage on minors and exotics is capped at 1:20. Overnight swap rates apply to forex positions held past the daily rollover, but traders who use swap-free accounts are exempt.

Indices

Index CFDs provide leveraged exposure to baskets of listed companies without requiring the purchase of each constituent. Under the trading conditions of Primus Markets INTL LTD, margin levels depend on the index. Most indices have a margin requirement of 1%, while the Nikkei 225 Index and Spain 35 can be traded with margins of 5% and 3%, respectively.

If you reside in Europe, leverage is capped at 1:20 for major indices, meaning the margin cannot be lower than 5%. Minor indices have an even stricter leverage limit of 1:10.

Stock CFDs

Share CFDs make up most of FXPrimus’ selection of instruments. More than 1,000 stock CFDs are available on the PrimusCLASSIC account, and the selection encompasses technology giants such as Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft, alongside recognized industrial and financial leaders such as Boeing, Citigroup, and Tesla.

The maximum leverage is 1:10 at the Vanuatu entity, while the Cyprus-regulated branch permits leverage of up to 1:5. Although shares are exclusive to the zero-commission account, both MetaQuotes platforms and the FXPrimus web client for MetaTrader support stock trading.

Energies

FXPrimus’ catalog features contracts for difference on essential energy commodities such as Brent oil, spot crude oil (WTI), and US natural gas. Trading parameters vary depending on the specific energy product. For spot crude oil and spot Brent oil, the broker establishes a standard contract size of 1,000 units and a minimum margin requirement of 1%. US natural gas has a larger standard lot size of 10,000 units and requires a margin of 3%. These conditions apply to the VFSC-regulated subsidiary, while the European branch has much stricter minimum margin requirements of 10%. Energy contracts are available through the desktop and mobile versions of MT4 and MT5. FXPrimus WebTrader also supports energy instruments.

Metals

In addition to energies, FXPrimus’ commodity range focuses on precious metals. Traders can access a variety of prominent assets, including gold paired with multiple fiat currencies such as the US dollar, euro, and Australian dollar, alongside silver, platinum, and palladium. The broker also offers base metal instruments through contracts for copper, aluminum, and zinc. Margin requirements range from 1% for XPD/USD to 5% for XPT/USD. Metals can be traded regardless of the account type you open.

Cryptocurrencies

Cryptocurrency CFDs allow clients to speculate on price movements using a trading account rather than a blockchain wallet. Clients who open PrimusCLASSIC accounts can trade a wide array of digital currency pairs against the US dollar. The catalog features major assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Ripple, along with an extensive selection of altcoins, including Cardano, Solana, Polkadot, Avalanche, Dogecoin, and Uniswap. Margin requirements are set at 50%, meaning only leverage of up to 1:2 is permitted. As crypto CFDs are only available through PrimusCLASSIC, all trading costs other than swaps are incorporated into the spread. Cryptocurrencies are not available through the CySEC-regulated entity.

What You Cannot Trade

FXPrimus does not provide conventional ownership of listed shares, exchange-traded funds, or bonds. It also does not present itself as a venue for exchange-traded futures or listed options. Investors building an unleveraged, income-producing securities portfolio will therefore require a different type of broker.

Traded Instruments

3.5/5
  • The range covers six principal forex and CFD asset categories
  • Forex traders receive access to major, minor, and selected additional pairs
  • The library of around 40 forex pairs is sufficient but smaller than the selections offered by competing brands
  • Product availability depends heavily on the account type
  • Real shares, ETFs, bonds, listed futures, and listed options are unavailable

Trade Execution

FXPrimus primarily operates as a straight-through processing (STP) broker, but it states that it acts as the counterparty under certain circumstances, resulting in over-the-counter execution.

Contract sizing depends on the instrument, but the broker supports standard, mini, and micro lots. Execution speed is not clearly disclosed but is described as ultra-fast. According to our tests, orders were typically executed within 100 milliseconds during the review process, and we experienced minimal slippage.

Automated strategies can be hosted on a compatible third-party virtual private server, but the broker has not partnered with any particular VPS service. Thus, eligibility conditions and latency benefits depend on the specific service a trader chooses.

In its EU documentation, the broker clearly states the operating hours of its Electronic Trading Platform:

  • Working period: Around the clock from 00:00:01 (GMT+2) on Monday through 00:00:00 (GMT+2) on Saturday
  • Non-working period: From 00:00:01 (GMT+2) on Saturday through 00:00:00 (GMT+2) on Monday
  • Holidays: Traders receive information about holiday schedules via email

Deposits

FXPrimus’ global website supports deposits through digital wallets such as Skrill and Neteller, Visa and Mastercard cards, cryptocurrencies, and bank transfers. The exact selection of deposit methods depends on whether you are trading with the VFSC- or CySEC-regulated entity and your country of residence. The minimum deposit is $15 for PrimusCLASSIC, making funding relatively accessible, but PrimusPRO and PrimusZERO require minimum deposits of $500 and $1,000, respectively.

Deposits must normally originate from an account or payment instrument in the trading account holder’s name. Third-party payments may be rejected or returned as part of anti-money-laundering controls. The broker does not charge deposit fees, although banks, card issuers, wallets, and currency providers may apply separate costs.

In terms of processing times, card and digital wallet transactions are processed immediately. Local bank transfers, on the other hand, can take between one and three days to process. International bank transfers have the longest processing times, typically taking five to eight days.

Withdrawal Methods

Withdrawal requests are submitted through the secure client portal after identity verification. FXPrimus may request additional evidence when account details, sources of funds, or payment information require clarification, and the destination account must generally be held in the client’s own name.

Anti-money-laundering rules require deposited funds to be returned to the original payment source where possible. Profits or amounts exceeding the original deposit may then be transferred through an eligible bank or alternative method. According to FXPrimus, the broker typically processes withdrawal transactions within 24 hours if the request is submitted on a business day. The minimum withdrawal amount at the EU branch is $100, but different requirements may apply depending on the trader’s jurisdiction.

The broker does not charge withdrawal fees, but as with deposits, external payment providers, card issuers, and banking institutions may levy their own charges. Crypto transactions may incur network fees.

Security and Money Protection

International clients under Primus Markets INTL LTD rely on VFSC supervision, the broker’s contractual safeguards, and its internal controls. They do not receive access to a statutory investor compensation arrangement. Clients registered with Primus Global LTD, the company responsible for FXPrimus’ European operations, have access to the Investor Compensation Fund (ICF), which offers compensation of up to €20,000 should FXPrimus become insolvent.

FXPrimus ensures that client money is segregated from corporate operating funds and kept in accounts at top-tier banking institutions. The broker also provides negative balance protection to users of both the offshore and EU entities. Segregation is intended to prevent the routine use of client money for operating expenses, while negative balance protection limits an eligible client’s liability following extreme market movements. Essentially, negative balance protection ensures that traders will not become indebted to their broker if extreme volatility leads to losses that would otherwise result in a negative balance.

Two-factor authentication is available under account settings. Mobile biometric access is generally a function of the third-party trading application: the MT5 and MT4 apps available on the App Store and Google Play offer a one-time password generator, along with the option to enable PIN and biometric authentication.

Withdrawal checks, identity verification, and restrictions on third-party payments reduce account fraud and money-laundering risks. Clients remain responsible for protecting passwords, verifying communications, and confirming that payment instructions originate from an official FXPrimus channel.

Security of Funds

  • Retail clients have access to negative balance protection
  • CySEC users are eligible for ICF compensation

Conclusion and Overall Rating

Overall, FXPrimus has a capable offering with its own advantages and trade-offs. FXPrimus generally suits forex and CFD traders who want a low initial funding threshold and are interested in using MT4 and MT5. It is regulated by the VFSC internationally and CySEC in Europe, giving it relatively broad regulatory coverage. Both regulated FXPrimus entities offer negative balance protection.

Market coverage is generally satisfactory, with forex, indices, hard commodities, shares, and cryptocurrencies available to trade as CFDs. However, certain instruments are account-specific, while cryptocurrency availability also depends on the entity you trade with, as FXPrimus Europe does not offer crypto CFDs.

In terms of cost structures, both spread-only and commission-based accounts are available. PrimusPRO accounts charge a comparatively high commission of $5 per side, but PrimusZERO features competitive commissions of $2.50 per side on most instruments.

The offshore entity offers high leverage ratios of up to 1:2000, a broader account selection, a minimum deposit of $15, and access to both MT4 and MT5. These features may suit traders seeking significant market exposure and more account flexibility. However, the offshore entity is less compelling for individuals seeking tightly restricted retail leverage and statutory compensation coverage. The EU entity, on the other hand, ensures that local clients can trade within ESMA-imposed safeguards and use leverage no higher than 1:30, but this restriction may not suit traders seeking greater market exposure. Moreover, its PrimusCLASSIC account has a much higher minimum deposit requirement of $500. This entity also does not offer PrimusZERO, PAMM, or PrimusSYNTHETICS accounts, and MT5 integration is not supported.

  1. FXPrimus has operated since 2009
  2. The PrimusCLASSIC account offered by the offshore brokerage has a minimum deposit of $15
  3. PrimusCLASSIC, PrimusPRO, and PrimusZERO cover spread-only and commission-based trading
  4. MT4 and MT5 are available for desktop, web, and mobile trading
  5. Average spreads are 1.50 pips for PrimusCLASSIC, 0.30 pips for PrimusPRO, and 0.00 pips for PrimusZERO
  6. The product range covers forex and CFDs on indices, shares, metals, energies, and cryptocurrencies
  7. VFSC and CySEC licenses
  8. Statutory investor compensation coverage is not available under the offshore entity
  9. Real shares, ETFs, bonds, and exchange-traded derivatives are not offered
  10. Live chat, email, a contact form, and FAQs are the principal support channels

How We Calculate the Overall Score

Our reviewers rate all brokers based on the same 15 Scoring Categories. Each category is rated with a score between 1 and 5 (in 0.5 increments).

The Scoring Categories are not weighted equally. Each category's score is multiplied by the category's weight to calculate its weighted contribution towards the Overall Score. Higher weights go to factors that most directly shape the typical retail trader's day-to-day online experience - trading costs, platforms, payments, and execution. On the other hand areas such as research content or account-opening formalities contribute less. This keeps the overall score focused on what matters most when choosing a broker to trade with.
